Torres was difference
Torres Was The Difference, Says Carragher Jamie Carragher has lavished praise on Fernando Torres after the Spaniard netted a sensational hat-trick in Liverpool’s 4-2 Carling Cup win over Reading.
The expensive summer signing from Atletico Madrid did a good job of making a point to manager Rafael Benitez that he has been wrong to leave him out of the starting line-up in recent Premiership matches.
“He’s won us the game,” Carragher said. “It was a tight game, a very difficult game but he’s made the difference.
“Some great finishes but it’s not just his goals, it’s his all round work for the team.”
However, Benitez refused to confirm if Torres would be selected against Wigan this weekend as he considers tweaking his starting eleven again.
When asked about Torres’ chances of starting, Benitez told Sky Sports 2: “Could be, we’ll see.
“During the week we have good strikers and I think I’ll have to think about it.
“It was a terrific game (for Torres).
I think he can kill the defenders.”
